No trucks, no vans, no 2-seater roadsters...
What’s the closest thing to a plain-Jane commuter car that is currently available (new) with rear-wheel drive? Let’s see how far we can get from the usual sporty suspects. The “sleepier” the better! Candidates must be street-legal production vehicles. Actual door count doesn’t matter, but a functional rear seat is a must.
And just for fun, let’s try to leave out any FWD-based AWD cars, even if they’re equipped with a mode for disengaging the front wheels for RWD operation. True RWD, or RWD-based AWD/4WD only, please.
Again: no trucks, no vans. Go!

Is the 300 still being sold?

Probably a base Charger.

Base model dodge charger - available at your local car rental counter for well under 100$ a day.

Damn! The iMiev was just discontinued last year! The smart car doesn’t have a back seat, but is RWD.
Otherwise, probably the Charger/300

Base Charger as said, or maybe the Twingo?

Gonna say the Chevy SS. It totally had the look of a mundane family sedan and is very much a sleeper.

I'm sure somewhere a licensed version of the Hindustan Ambassador is still being made

This actually . I’m picturing a white, slightly scuffed 320d which is about as exciting to see as cornflakes.

The Genesis G70 2.0L turbo.

Also I know you said no trucks and vans but crossovers are plain Jane commuters these days so I’d argue it’s probably the new Explorer coming out this year. Most will likely be AWD but it will be an optional extra so there will be tons of RWD ones on the road boringly shuffling to and from the mall, grocery store and kids’ sports all practice.

So, I lost track and forgot they’re not making the SS anymore. But maybe there’s still a new one on a lot somewhere.

Not in North America though. There was also a limited run of 350 units with a NA V6 and 6MT.

Aside from the Charger and 300... I think all the cars listed are mandatory AWD in Canada. Sigh.

I think you can still buy a 2wd 4Runner. Don’t know why you would but there you go.
I think I just roasted myself. Whatever.

Mentioned it to the salesmen when I was shopping for trucks and he didn't even know what an SS was...

Say what you want about the Model 3, it’s far from regular.

Maybe it’s just where I live but there are so many of them on the road now that they just blend in with all of the other Camry/Accord/Malibu/Altima/etc sedans.

YMMV. I see one on the road about once a week at most, and I think it’s just me seeing the same car over and over.

Base versions of the Chrysler LX-body- ie the 300, the Charger, and the Challenger.
Also, the BMW 2 Series is a fairly regular, 2-door sedan with an available manual transmission.

I know the F30 was available here in RWD, maybe there are a few leftover 2018s on lots.

It was down to just the 340i, but good luck finding any dealer even carrying one. It’s almost always a 340i xDrive. And considering MY2018 ordering is closed, it’s as good as non-existent.

The 340i and the 330e and a quick search on autotrader turned up one brand new 330e in Markham

Base model 2-series. Especially if you include the Euro-spec hatchback. Surprisingly roomy back seat for a compact coupe.
